Argo float data from UW/MBARI, BGC-Argo and Core, preliminary near real-time |
Quality controlled data from the BGC-Argo floats hosted at MBARI. Includes all GO-BGC (Global Ocean Biogeochemistry array) and SOCCOM (Southern Ocean Carbon and Climate Observations and Modeling project) floats. Raw data are available at https://www3.mbari.org/lobo/Data/FloatVizData/ (navigate to the /QC/ subfolder for quality controlled files). BGC-Argo formatted netCDF files for all floats including a WMO number are also available on the Argo GDAC (ftp://usgodae.org/pub/outgoing/argo/dac/aoml/). NOTE: These data are served in NEAR REAL-TIME and are PROVIDED AS-IS. Be aware that inaccuracies may be present within the data. While automated quality control procedures are applied during near real-time processing, additional delayed mode quality control (and data adjustments based on comparisons to reference fields) is done at a minimum of twice per year per float. MBARI data managers do their best to provide high-quality, complete data but make no guarantees as to the presence of errors within the near real-time data itself or the algorithms used in the generation of derived carbon parameters. It is the USER'S RESPONSIBILITY to ensure that the data meets the user's needs. BioGeoChemical-Argo Float data from SOCCOM and UW-MBARI, Latest Snapshot Archive |
This data archive contains quality controlled data from BGCArgo floats within the SOCCOM (Southern Ocean Carbon and Climate Observations and Modeling project) array and represents a snapshot of the SOCCOM real-time dataset. This dataset contains the latest available snapshot archive. Each snapshot archive is assigned a unique DOI, and is hosted on the SOCCOM UCSD library digital collection. All snapshot archives of the SOCCOM dataset are available through the full SOCCOM UCSD library digital collection at https://library.ucsd.edu/dc/collection/bb4473712z. See the DOI and history attibutes for specific references for this snapshot. Float specific metadata, as well as raw and QC files from the near-real time dataset are available at https://www3.mbari.org/lobo/Data/FloatVizData/ (navigate to the /QC/ subfolder for quality controlled files). BGCArgo formatted netCDF files for the SOCCOM array are also available on the Argo GDAC (ftp://usgodae.org/pub/outgoing/argo/dac/aoml/). NOTE: While delayed-mode quality control (and data adjustments based on comparisons to reference fields) is assessed across the array prior to the generation of each SOCCOM snapshot archive, all data is PROVIDED AS-IS. Be aware that INACCURACIES MAY BE PRESENT within the data. SOCCOM data managers do their best to provide high-quality, complete data but make no guarantees as to the presence of errors within the data itself or the algorithms used in the generation of derived carbon parameters. Global Temperature and Salinity Profile Programme (GTSPP) Data, 1985-present |
The Global Temperature-Salinity Profile Programme (GTSPP) develops and maintains a global ocean temperature and salinity resource with data that are both up-to-date and of the highest quality. It is a joint World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) program. It includes data from XBTs, CTDs, moored and drifting buoys, and PALACE floats. For information about organizations contributing data to GTSPP, see http://gosic.org/goos/GTSPP-data-flow.htm . The U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) maintains the GTSPP Continuously Managed Data Base and releases new 'best-copy' data once per month.
WARNING: This dataset has a *lot* of data. If you request too much data, your request will fail.
* If you don't specify a longitude and latitude bounding box, don't request more than a month's data at a time.
* If you do specify a longitude and latitude bounding box, you can request data for a proportionally longer time period.
Requesting data for a specific station_id may be slow, but it works.
*** This ERDDAP dataset has data for the entire world for all available times (currently, up to and including the September 2022 data) but is a subset of the original NODC 'best-copy' data. It only includes data where the quality flags indicate the data is 1=CORRECT, 2=PROBABLY GOOD, or 5=MODIFIED. It does not include some of the metadata, any of the history data, or any of the quality flag data of the original dataset. You can always get the complete, up-to-date dataset (and additional, near-real-time data) from the source: https://www.nodc.noaa.gov/GTSPP/ . Specific differences are:
* Profiles with a position_quality_flag or a time_quality_flag other than 1|2|5 were removed.
* Rows with a depth (z) value less than -0.4 or greater than 10000 or a z_variable_quality_flag other than 1|2|5 were removed.
* Temperature values less than -4 or greater than 40 or with a temperature_quality_flag other than 1|2|5 were set to NaN.
* Salinity values less than 0 or greater than 41 or with a salinity_quality_flag other than 1|2|5 were set to NaN.
* Time values were converted from "days since 1900-01-01 00:00:00" to "seconds since 1970-01-01T00:00:00".
See the Quality Flag definitions on page 5 and "Table 2.1: Global Impossible Parameter Values" on page 61 of
https://www.nodc.noaa.gov/GTSPP/document/qcmans/GTSPP_RT_QC_Manual_20090916.pdf .
The Quality Flag definitions are also at

International Arctic Buoy Programme meteorological and oceanographic buoys |
The International Arctic Buoy Programme (IABP) maintais a network of data buoys in the entire Arctic Ocean to provide meteorological, sea ice and oceanographic data for real-time operational requirements and research purposes. Buoy data files are updated daily. Values provided are confined to surface temperature, atmospheric temperature, and barometric pressure when these values are available. All buoy files contain at least a date and position. Buoys that are no longer reporting remain available. PolarWatch harvests these data from https://iabp.apl.uw.edu/WebData/. NDBC Standard Meteorological Buoy Data, 1970-present |
The National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) distributes meteorological data from
moored buoys maintained by NDBC and others. Moored buoys are the weather
sentinels of the sea. They are deployed in the coastal and offshore waters
from the western Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean around Hawaii, and from the
Bering Sea to the South Pacific. NDBC's moored buoys measure and transmit
barometric pressure; wind direction, speed, and gust; air and sea
temperature; and wave energy spectra from which significant wave height,
dominant wave period, and average wave period are derived. Even the
direction of wave propagation is measured on many moored buoys. See
https://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/measdes.shtml for a description of the measurements.
The source data from NOAA NDBC has different column names, different units,
and different missing values in different files, and other problems
(notably, lots of rows with duplicate or different values for the same time
point). This dataset is a standardized, reformatted, and lightly edited
version of that source data, created by NOAA NMFS SWFSC ERD (email:
erd.data at noaa.gov). Before 2020-01-29, this dataset only had the data
that was closest to a given hour, rounded to the nearest hour. Now, this
dataset has all of the data available from NDBC with the original time
values. If there are multiple source rows for a given buoy for a given
time, only the row with the most non-NaN data values is kept. If there is
a gap in the data, a row of missing values is inserted (which causes a nice
gap when the data is graphed). Also, some impossible data values are
removed, but this data is not perfectly clean. This dataset is now updated
every 5 minutes.
This dataset has both historical data (quality controlled, before
2022-10-01T00:00:00Z) and near real time data (less quality controlled,
which may change at any time, from 2022-10-01T00:00:00Z on).

OBIS - ARGOS Satellite Tracking of Animals |
Various species have been tracked using ARGOS PTT trackers since the early 1990's. These include Emperor, King and Adelie pengiuns, Light-mantled Sooty, Grey-headed and Black-browed albatrosses, Antarctic and Australian fur seals, Southern Elephant Seal and Blue and Humpback whales. Note that not all data for any species or locations is or will be exposed to OBIS. Geographic coverage is from Heard Island to the west and Macquarie Island to the east and several islands near the southern end of Chile. The data has been filtered to remove most but not all erroneous positions.
DiGIR is an engine which takes XML requests for data and returns a data
subset stored as XML data (as defined in a schema). For more DiGIR
information, see http://digir.sourceforge.net/ ,
http://diveintodigir.ecoforge.net/draft/digirdive.html ,
and http://digir.net/prov/prov_manual.html .
A list of Digir providers is at
http://bigdig.ecoforge.net/wiki/SchemaStatus .
Darwin is the original schema for use with the DiGIR engine.
The Ocean Biogeographic Information System (OBIS) schema extends
Darwin. For more OBIS info, see http://www.iobis.org .
See the OBIS schema at http://www.iobis.org/tech/provider/questions .
Queries: Although OBIS datasets have many variables, most variables
have few values. The only queries that are likely to succeed MUST
include a constraint for Genus= and MAY include constraints for
Species=, longitude, latitude, and time.
Most OBIS datasets return a maximum of 1000 rows of data per request.
The limitation is imposed by the OBIS administrators.

IMPORTANT: ALWAYS USE THE QUALITY FLAG DATA! Each data variable's metadata includes a qcindex attribute which indicates a character number in the flag data. ALWAYS check the flag data for each row of data to see which data is good (flag='Z') and which data isn't. For example, to extract just data where time (qcindex=1), latitude (qcindex=2), longitude (qcindex=3), and airTemperature (qcindex=12) are 'good' data, include this constraint in your ERDDAP query:
flag=~"ZZZ........Z.*"
in your query.
'=~' indicates this is a regular expression constraint.
The 'Z's are literal characters. In this dataset, 'Z' indicates 'good' data.
The '.'s say to match any character.
The '*' says to match the previous character 0 or more times.
(Don't include backslashes in your query.)

Sea Ice Pressure Ridge Sail Height from DMS IceBridge Imagery, Arctic, 25km, from 2010 - 2018 Airborne Surveys |
This data file contains the NOAA / NESDIS / STAR / LSA Polar Ocean Data System (PODS) Arctic Sail-Height Product. The Arctic Sail-Height Product is derived from high-resolution Digital Mapping System (DMS) imagery of sea ice pressure ridges acquired during annual, low-elevation NASA Operation IceBridge airborne surveys over Arctic sea ice. IceBridge observations were acquired between March and May, 2010 - 2018. Statistics for pressure ridge sails are extracted per image, then are further processed into arithmetic averages for 25km along-track segments for each aircraft flight line.

Sea Ice Surface Elevation from IceBridge ATM LIDAR, Arctic, from 2009 to 2018 Airborne Surveys |
This dataset contains the NOAA / NESDIS / STAR / LSA Polar Ocean Data System (PODS) Arctic Gridded Surface Elevation Product. The Gridded Surface Elevation Product is derived from Airborne Topographic Mapper (ATM) lidar elevation data acquired during annual, low-altitude NASA Operation IceBridge airborne surveys over Arctic sea ice. IceBridge ATM data were acquired between March and May, 2009 - 2019. Due to the conical scanning geometry of the ATM lidar, across-track sampling is non-uniform, with sampling density greatest at the swath edges. To account for the variation in sample density, ATM elevation data are gridded (See Figure 1 on Data Product Webpage). Each grid cell has an along-track dimension of 30 m and an across-track dimension that is inversely proportional to the across-track sampling density. The grid configuration optimizes ATM sample density providing high-resolution measurements of elevation while still containing enough point measurements for robust statistical calculations.
